| “Expecting the world to treat you fairly because you are a good person is a little like expecting the bull not to attack you because you are a vegetarian.”- Dennis Wholey There is no obligation for people or anyone to be nice to us, but when they do, we must not forget to repay their kindness, even though what they have provided may be far from perfect. Reward goodness, and goodness will be encouraged to get going! The skills or quality of provision can be perfected later.Sometimes, some people may harbour ill intentions by offering help for unwholesome trade in exchange. Nevertheless, at least, the person has provided temporary relief and convenience to us, and we ought to still repay and thank them for the benefits we have obtained. Just remember to give only Just Enough of our gratitude, and in forms that adhere to our integrity. Other indecent proposals or demand, just reject calmly and firmly (on account that it's against our principles and values) and we ask for their respect for that. When people are rewarded sufficiently, they will let us go. It is better to be clear and direct about what we can offer back in return right from the very start to avoid misunderstandings later. - Mood:reject evil expect none

| Interesting response on a forum: Buddhism, Hinduism and Zen - What are the differences and similarities between them?
Ultimately, these seek by various paths, to eliminate ego (Pride) from the human equation, which would allow us to perceive reality as it really is. For example the "moment of Zen" is a brief experience of oneness in which one is part of everything and in complete tune with all. The timing is perfect in whatever is being done and feels as though you are not doing it, but are an instrument of the whole consciousness which spans the universe.
Quantum physics is close to demonstrating this oneness in terms science can understand. They mystics have always known it. Everything is really one thing in disguise, separation is an illusion. Ego is what maintains that sense of separation.
The ego can not exist in reality so we are born into a system of living which reinforces the illusion which we further reinforce by living in our vain imaginations. We escape reality by being immersed in culture, language, and brainwashing by parents and teachers. The body, being animal, also works to dominate our thinking which when combined with the noise generator which is the brain, keeps us nicely separated from an objective view of ourselves and everything else. Judgment is us playing God, which the ego thinks it is.
I add: The late Zen Master Seung Sahn once gave a talk about different religions, and this is what I remembered: Various religions are like different fingers pointing to the moon (truth). Unfortunately, instead of focusing on the moon, a lot of times, the fingers fight with one another. The different fingers pointing refer to different methods that can be used for practice. Just like the phrase: All roads lead to Rome.Which roads to take? Instead of fighting over the roads, most importantly is to "walk" one of them, start the trip, persist until one reaches the destination finally. Different people have different preferences, and that's ok. What is more important is to stay true to the path one has chosen or taken, and don't be distracted along the way. It's the attachment to "who is better" or "who is more true than the rest" that causes separations, and that's also not a big problem. Big problem is when those who hold "mine is better" or "mine is truer" start to think highly of themselves against the rest. They have forgotten that: believing in a "better" or a "truer" religion doesn't make one "better" or "truer" than before one believes that religion. It's how much they have put into practice what their religion have taught them that matters. - Mood:contemplating

| Yang is shining, showy male energy which needs the support of Yin which is a quiet, subdued, but very stable & strong female energy.
This modern world sees a turn - females coming out courageously and sometimes shining more than the males. Males are finding themselves competing not only with other males, but also with the females. Yin and Yang now seem to exchange roles.
Unfortunately, males can't forget their pride & ego, their Yang force will always urge them forward no matter how unwilling they are.
If one is a naturally vibrant & sunshine female, when her shy man wants to try forward, she needs to then relax to backstage to gently support him - return to her original role as a strong but quiet Yin force. - Mood:wondering away

| As a contradiction to the current medical sciences, Daoism does not encourage anyone to be sexually active. In fact, the less of it the better. It's the key and answer to great health and longevity. Chinese medicine and treatment is based on the same principles, accordingly there are 3 kinds of treasure of human body -- (1) essence of life 精, (2) vital energy 气, and (3) vitality 神. These 3 treasures are easily expended away in great amount when one engages in sexual activity. Even in rightful marriage, husband-and-wife are advised to exercise moderation, otherwise there will be damaging consequences to one's health and well-being (body, mind, and spirit).
Any sexual relationships beyond or before marriage is forbidden in Daoism. It is a serious and sacred matter the same way it is treated in Catholicism and Islam.
The 3 kinds of treasure of human body must be preserved, they are needed to achieve enlightenment. It is therefore a good life path for those not binded by marriage to be a pure single, one that cultivates to free one's body, mind and spirit entirely from sexual desires.
In Buddhism, this is also the first precept to observe: cut-off all sexual desires, when practising The Shurangama Sutra. - Mood:practise pure single

Many of us are burdened, if not caught up with our past. More than the consequences of our past actions, we let the memory of the past drag us down. We like to hit the rewind button in our memory and lick the wounds of long ago. We open up one painful memory and then a sudden flood of other unpleasant memories comes rushing in. And downward spiral we go.
We spend most of our time entertaining our bitterness, pains and disappointments of yesterday. We even spend countless hours just imagining the day we will get our vindication or even vengeance from past hurts. As we waste our time dwelling in our past, our present is wasted as well. And the sad thing is that our today is our tomorrow’s yesterday. Wasting the present now is just adding up to our wasted past. And the vicious cycle continues.
Many of us are also so anxious about our future. While our bodies reside in the present moment, our mind has time traveled years from now. We spend much time being worried and gloomy to things that has not happened yet. We are so absorbed in the “What Ifs” that we forget the “What nows?”
Our present also affects our future very much. To have a better tomorrow is to have a better today. Our actions today will greatly affect our future, good or bad. To waste your time today being anxious about tomorrow is to waste the opportunity to improve your tomorrow.
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
To live life is to live in the present moment. The past is dead and the future is yet unborn. The key to healing the past and having a hopeful future lies to what you will decide to do NOW. Now is the only thing we really got. If you waste the present moment by dwelling in the past or being anxious about the future, you end up loosing everything.
Today is your tomorrow’s past.
The way you live today will make your tomorrow better or bitter.
Today is where you are.

| “The six supernormal faculties of the enlightened are the ability: To enter the realm of form(色)without being confused by form, To enter the realm of sound(声)without being confused by sound, To enter the realm of scent(香)without being confused by scent, To enter the realm of flavor(味)without being confused by flavor, To enter the realm of feeling(触)without being confused by feeling, To enter the realm of phenomena(法)without being confused by phenomena. ”- Linji (d. 867) Questions from Discussions after I posted this on a forum:How do we enter without being confused ?
Does this mean to allow the senses to enter but not grasp on to them? Just allow that flow of thought to leave once it enters through us? My reply: I am also learning, not able to master yet. What I learn from Zen teachings, especially those by the late Zen Master Seung Sahn, is to practise moment to moment: "put down, put down, put down". Or, keep a "Don't Know" mind moment to moment. Just perceive truth as it is, keep the mind like a mirror, only reflect the truth, don't grasp or hold, red reflects red, blue reflects blue, mirror doesn't hold anything, doesn't add "like-dislike", add judgement of "beauty-ugly" etc., but only reflects.
Maybe our habits is to ADD some thinking and feelings, but those are already our own conditions that set us apart from everyone else and therefore create differences. After lingering a while with thoughts and feelings and ideas and so on, Put Down. Like calculator's "Clear" button, moment to moment, "clear" "clear" "clear". Then we can "calculate" correctly: we can understand our situation correctly, we can perceive truth correctly, and as a result, we also function, speak, act and do correctly in any environment and situation.
Zen Master Seung Sahn taught that Buddha nature, which also means, Great Love, Great Compassion, Great Wisdom, is in us, there's no need to add thinking or feeling to make them appear. As Buddha has said: All sentient beings have Buddha nature, they are merely hindered by their attachments and delusions and therefore couldn't attain it.
So, go straight into our Buddha nature, which he guided us always by saying "Go Straight Into Don't Know Mind!", function the mind like a mirror. All those senses are merely transient and temporary. Don't be confused by them. When stuck in one confused state, the outside world already changes. So, let go, let go, let go, put down, put down, put down, only Don't Know.
PS: I am only revising, so, just sharing what I remembered from the late Zen Master Seung Sahn's teachings and that of his disciples.
Here's a Tribute to this Zen Master, and his teachings about how to really save this world: http://taogirl.multiply.com/journal/item/14

Have you ever asked yourself what is costing you to keep carrying this burden of an unforgiving spirit? Think of the bitterness, anger, jealousy and hatred that are eating away at your soul because of your inability to forgive.
An unforgiving spirit hurts us emotionally and spiritually, and keeps us from becoming the people we want to be. It also cuts us off from experiencing peace and joy in our lives. So, Yes, forgive them, get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, but don't let down your guard if they still can't remove their harmful habits. In my life, lots of this kind of people. Forgive them, and they think we allow them to take advantage of us all over again. So, draw the lines clearly but keep our soul and spirit free! - Mood:peaceful

Don't Be AfraidHere we are, afraid of losing what we have all the time, holding on to it so tight that not a soul can touch it. We think by hiding it from the world, it's hidden and it's ours. Nothing is. Nothing ever will be. For, nothing ever was. If you think there is anything that you have, that's yours, be it money, a house, a job, or a girlfriend... it's nothing but an illusion. It'll all disappear... in one blow. One blow, my man. Here we are, so insecure that we are afraid of re-starting our lives, so we just carry on trying to sort out the current mess. The thought that we should give it all up and just start all over - with nothing - might cross our minds some time, sure, but we get scared and we push away anything that scares us. There is nothing I can ever achieve or gain that I cannot lose, in a matter of seconds. You have never gained enough to not be able to lose it all, in just a few minutes. What you think is yours, was never yours and will never be yours. Whatever you make here, you leave here. You came naked and you're going to go back naked. So what are you afraid of? Let all be lost. Let them take away everything. As long as you have your heart beating strong, as long as you have your nostrils working fine, as long as the blood flows in your veins, you will live, you will breathe and you can get it all back... again and again. For, if you can do it once, you can damn well do it again. It's just a game we play - Life.Believe In Your Heart- Believe in your heart that something wonderful is about to happen. Love your life.
- Believe in your own powers and your own potential and in your own innate goodness.

- Explore and embrace life in yourself and in everyone you see each day.
- Reach within to find your own specialness. Amaze yourself and rouse those around you to the potential of each new day.
- Don't be afraid to admit that you are less than perfect. This is the essence of your humanity.
- Let those who love you help you. Trust enough to be able to take.
- Look with hope to the horizon of today for today is all we truly have. Live this day well.

Love All, Trust A Few, but Do Wrong to None!

Love is one of the misused words in our vocabulary. In effect its real meaning has become vague. Saying “I love you” and “I love pizza” seems to be same to many.
Could it be that we treat people as pizzas?
To love, real love or agape is to give oneself to the other for the sake of the other. To lust is to treat people like pizzas. To lust is to use people for your own selfish desire for pleasure. What do you do when pizza satisfies your craving? It becomes a leftover. And sooner or later it gets thrown away.
Many people feel that way.
Thrown away.
Lust uses people for selfish reasons and desires. After the reasons or desires are met, the person is discarded. And sadly we live in a culture that promotes using each other, just see the advertisements!
Love, the real thing is on the opposite side of lust. Love wants what is the good of the other. It does not use the other to benefit oneself. Love looks at the eyes of the beloved. Lust is trapped in his own ego, thinking how to use the other person.
Once I heard that as long as two people are in the agreement in using each other, it is alright. But it does not change the fact that you are being used and you are using another person. And people were not made to be used, but to be loved.
To live a life of lust is to live a life of emptiness. Only real love can truly satisfy us.
Love and lust cannot exist with each other for the reason that love cannot wait to give while lust cannot wait to take. - Mood:touched by True Love
